Orc & Goblin Core Tactics

The Core units are the rank and file of the Orc and Goblin army. While other sections may get all the glory, it is usually the Core choices that win the battle. In this section we will have a look at the Orc and Goblin Core Unit tactics.

Orc Boyz Tactics

The Orc Boyz are the core of the Orc army. These are the units that you will be using most, so it is a good idea to get very familiar with their strengths and abilities. They are very good in close combat, so that is where you want them to be.

The Orc Boyz are armed with choppa's as standard. Choppa's give the Orc Boyz a bonus in the first round of combat. You get this bonus regardless if you charge in, or if you get charged. However if you are in combat and get charged by a 2nd unit, they do not get the bonus for the second charge.

You can give the Orc Boyz sheilds, be these are of dubious value. I prefer yo give the boyz an extra hand weapon so that they can cause those extra attacks.

Orc Arrer Boyz Tactics

Orc 'Arrer Boys are good at providing support for the main Orc Boys. Remember that the Arrer Boys also carry choppa's. This means that 'Arrer Boyz make a formidable unit in assault too.

Savage Orc Boyz Tactics

Goblin Tactics

Goblin units can be used in two ways, either are the core of a goblin only army, or as secondary units to an Orc army.

Goblins have the advantage of being cheap. This means that you can easily get the full rank bonus, even if you go a bit wider on the front rank.

Goblin Wolf Riders Tactics

Wolf Riders are fast. And they are fast cavalry most of the time too. This makes them great for harassing the rear ranks of the enemy.

I highly recommend Goblins Wolf Riders armed with short bows.

Night Goblin Tactics

Goblin Spider Riders Tactics

Goblin Spider Riders are fast cavelry. This means that you will be able to move quickly and refom to face the enemy in one move.

The Goblin Spider riders cost more than the wolf riders, and they are slower so why take them?

The Goblin Spider Riders cost more point because they have a number of special rules that come very useful if you use them right.

Poison

The spiders themselves are poisonous. This means that characters with a high weapon skill can still be hit.

Shield and spear come as standard

Wolf riders need to pay extra points to get shields and spears. If you had the same equipment on each model, then the spider riders are only one point more.

Striders and creeping assault

Wolf riders may be faster on the flat but the more obstacles there are on the table the more effective the spiders will be. Add to this the ability of the spiders to come on behind the enemy lines, and you can see that the spiders can get into action much faster than you would expect.

Bows

The Goblin Spider Riders can be upgraded with bows. Now usually I would recommend keeping with the wolf riders for fast archery support, but if these are not available, then the spiders can make an interesting option for harrasment troops.
