Warhammer Fantasy
Orc & Goblin
Rare Unit Tactics

The rare unit choices are where you find the artillery and other heavy hitters of the Orc and Goblin army, like the Trolls and Giants. However even these are dwarfed by the new Arachnarok Giant Spiders that are big enough to carry a whole unit of Goblins.

Goblin Rock Lobber Tactics

The Goblin Rock Lobber is the stone thrower war machine of the Orc and Goblin army. This is manned by a crew of Goblins in the usual fashion for a Orc and Goblin war machine. This means that the Goblin Rock Lobber comes out well with the changes to the version 8 Fantasy Rules where the war machines toughness is used in close combat.
One advantage of the Rock Lobber stone thrower in the Orc and Goblin army is that it is just as accurate and reliable as any of the stone throwers of the other armies. this isreliefto a Orc and Goblin army player as there are so many extra rules that make the other units unpredictable.

Orc Bully

For an extra few points you can add an Orc Bully to keep the Goblins in order. This will give you an extra life for your Rock Lobber, but usually only thought as worth the points if you think that you will be assaulted near thebeginningof the game. this is because it is towards thebeginningofthe game when the Rock Lobbers are most useful.

Goblin Doom Diver Tactics

I love Doom Divers, and I rearly play Fontasy Orcs and Goblins without one or two of these in my army. Yes I know that this is makes my list a bit predictable, but I think that what they bring to the fight out ways this quirk.

Snotling Pump Wagon Tactics

Arachnarok Spider Tactics

Mangler Squig Tactics

Mangler Squigs are another of those quirky Night Goblin random movement, but highly destructive options that the Night Goblin army have a few of.

The Manger Squigs can be very destructive if they hit the enemy correctly. This is because they bounce through a unit causing a random number of S6 hits. But the best thing is that if there is a 2nd unit on the far side, the Mangler Squigs will bounce through that one too. This will continue untill the Mangler Squig passes out the other side. This means that you want the Magler Squid to flank the enemy and then turn 90 degrees and shoot through the ranks.

The danger with Mangler Squigs is that after the first round of destruction the Mangler Squig will shoot of in random directions for the rest of the game. This means that the Mangler Squigs have a danger of hitting your army too.

The way to destroy the Mangler Squigs is to move a unit in to them. This unit will take damage from the Mangler Squigs too. This means that your opponents will try to launch their most disposable unit in to your Mangler Squigs to destroy them. It will be your job to avoid these units and hit the most expensive units that they have.

Stone Troll Tactics

River Troll Tactics

Giant Tactics

There was a time when the Giants where the biggest models on the battle field. This is no longer the case with the Arachnarok Spider and similar models from other armies. This means that the the Giants can not throw their weight around like they use to.

The Giants have one major weakness. They are not overly tough. Giants have a few wounds but a sustained assault of S5 hits will take you Giant down fast enough. War Machines are the usual sourse. The way to aviod this then use to be to take 2+ Giants. This will mean that the enemy will have to split their S5 attack between the different targets. In the warhammer v8 rules there is not much more terrain in the battle table. This means that you will now have many more opportunities to avoid the in coming missiles.
